Michael Owusu Addo popularly known as Sarkodie is an unrivalled rapperholic who is recognized nationally and globally for his immense contribution to Ghana’s music industry.He was born in Tema on 10th July 1985 and is the fourth child amongst five children. After his basic education, he went on to Tema Methodist High School. Sarkodie has a degree in Graphics and Design from IPMC. Sarkodie is married to Tracy Owusu Addo in 2018 and has two children currently.
The young Sarkodie began his music career as a rapper in 2005 through an encounter with the host of Kasahari Level, Duncan William, on Adom Fm. This event brought Sarkodie to the limelight and into the genre of hiplife and hip-hop.
Music is not an end goal for Sarkodie as the rapper and entrepreneur also has a fashion line to complement his showbiz. His contributions to the Ghanaian music industry have earned him over 4 million fans on Instagram, 2 million-plus on Facebook with a monthly listenership of close to 270,000 on Spotify.
To make a positive impact in his community and the nation at large, Sarkodie project Tema, the community he was born and bred in through his music career this act has encouraged other musicians to also project their communities through music.
The Sark clothing line which seems to be inactive does not deter him from giving back to society. He is also an entrepreneur and a Philanthropist seeking to create opportunities for others to make a living and also support the less privileged for the betterment of Ghana’s future leaders.
Music, they say, is food for the soul and variety the spice of life thus, Sarkodie has repackaged rap music with his own added colour to make it more enjoyable for all.
