Gringo’s Story.

Gringo, as a young boy, liked listening to the older folks tell their stories in Seva, his village. One day he heard something from his father that stuck in his mind. His father, in the course of conversation, told his colleagues that his only dream as a child was to marry many women and have many children. And one of them jokingly interjected, “and now you are living your dream”, at which everyone burst into laughter.

When Gringo left the old older men, he started asking himself what his dream was. His father owned five fishing canoes, each with its fishing nets for fishing in the Keta Lagoon. Gringo was in primary school but he joined his father to go fishing on weekends. On one long vacation, his uncle, a fisherman who lived in Tema New Town visited the village and took him along to spend the holidays with him. He was so fascinated when he visited the harbour and saw many trawling vessels. Suddenly the idea of owning bigger boats that could fish on the sea struck him. It became his dream.

Gringo never stopped seeing himself as the owner of fleets of trawling vessels from the day he first visited the fishing harbour. After graduation from University of Ghana he became a teacher, but he never abandoned his dream of owning trawling boats.

The military government which had seized power from a civilian government three years earlier was going to hand over power and so political party activities were in full swing with the ban on politics lifted. Gringo joined the political band wagon and was made an Ambassador when his party won the elections. It was brief because his government was also overthrown.

Gringo bought his first fishing boat soon after losing his ambassadorial position. Fishing was a lucrative business at the time and he immersed himself in it with relished. By the time of his death, he had acquired three fishing trawlers and two deep sea fishing vessels.

Gringo lived his dream.

What is a Vision?

Three positive synonyms of Vision are: Dream, Idea or Visualization.

A Vision is a unique star that you can imagine and frequently see in your mind. It starts as an idea which you can visualize. It becomes a dream, which acted on, turns your vision into reality.

A Vision thus, provides direction and sets a path towards a future which you believe in. It guides your behaviour and directs you towards the kind of decisions you make in life. Thus, a man with a vision is the one who imagines a world that does not yet exist for him but which he aspires to make a reality.

Gringo had a vision. He wanted to own a fleet of fishing trawlers. Before then he had nothing but an idea which he nurtured by imagining himself owning a fleet of trawling vessels. This inspired him to work towards achieving his dream.

When you have a dream let it become part of you. Sleep with it. Wake up with it. Walk with it. Simply live it! It becomes real.
