His parents are Charles Mensah and Elsie Avemegah . Shatta Wale was born on the 17th of October 1984 at the Police Hospital and raised in Accra.
Shatta had is primary education at the Seven Great Princes Academy located in Dansoman, and went on to study at Winneba Secondary School in the Central region. He begun to pursue his dream of becoming a musician soon after school. During his time in Winneba, he took keyboard lessons and did vocal training at the music department, which was an eye opener and inspiration for him. Shatta Wale started his musical career with Bandana as a stage name in the early 2000’s and rose to popularity as a result of his songs Bandana from Ghana and Moko Hoo featuring Tinny. He went out of sight for a while but came back with a change of name and the release of two of his best songs in 2013, Everybody like my thing and Dancehall King. He changed his brand name from Bandana to Shatta Wale and switched to dance hall music.

Currently, Shatta Wale is sure to be listed as one of influencers on the entertainment scene because of his dynamic display and versatility in the music industry and his following. His proficiency he has been recognized internationally and locally and won him a collaboration with Beyoncé for effort and impact on society. He is the recipient of several awards including the African Europe Awards in Italy, African Entertainment Awards in the US, International Raggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA), Ghana Music Awards, Ghana’s Kids Choice Awards and many more.

He is selfless and an inspiration to up-coming musicians, whom he features in his songs or he collaborates with on their music such as Wendy Shay, Hajia Bintu, Captan, Ara-B, Kuami Eugene, Kidi and others.
