Musa’s Story
Musa is a product of a broken marriage. His father comes from Tamale in the Northern Region and his mother comes from Mafi in the Volta Region. Both parents moved into new marriages when he was only three years old. As a result Musa shuttled between Tamale and Mafi depending on the parent who was ready to accommodate him for a period. At age ten Musa was fed up with his life with both parents. He took the initiative of taking care of himself. He joined an older friend who was a cattle herder in Tamale. And for several years Musa and his friend took out cattle for feeding in the bush, morning and evenings. Under the circumstances Musa could not go to school though he admired school children when they dressed nicely to school. At age twenty four, Musa again, took the initiative to move to Accra when he heard how wonderful life in Accra could be from people who visited them in their cattle rearing village. He arranged with a driver’s mate of one of the cattle carting trucks to bring him to Accra. In Accra, his first stop was Agblobloshie. He moved to Circle a few days later to start a shoe-shine business. In the course his work, Musa met a man whose car had a flat tyre and assisted him to change the tyre. When the man offered him money he refused to take it. Surprised, the man asked him what he wanted. The man gave him his complimentary card and left. When Musa called the man he was invited to his office and offered a job as a casual messenger at Kotoka International Airport, Customs office. He quickly made friends with everyone around including two other casual employees who were there before him and the Customs Commander. He learnt how to speak and write English alongside his job. He saved money to buy a motorbike and upon his own initiative, he started carrying documents to the Customs Headquarters with his motorbike when he found out that it was the drivers who were doing that job. Within two years of being at the Airport, Musa took another bold initiative. He approached the man who sent him to the Airport Customs and pleaded to be made permanent.
Musa is now a fully employed Customs officer. He rides his motorbike everywhere in full Customs regalia. His two casual employee friends are still working as casuals for the Customs Office at the airport.
What is an Initiative?
Google defines Initiative as:
a. The ability to assess and initiate things independently.
b. The power or opportunity to act or take charge before others do.
c. Fresh approach to something

Musa has the ability to assess things concerning his future and made sure he used the necessary tools to propel himself to his present position. He took his own steps to change his destiny.
Initiative is a powerful tool that is applicable in all situations of human endeavour. It is the effort that must be applied to a wedge to split a wood. It is the initial energy that is applied to push a body into motion. It is the action that takes place to put ideas into usefulness.
Initiative is the one little step that when taken, leads to realisation of giant steps for an individual, family, and community as well as a nation and finally, mankind.
When was the last time you took that first step and made something happen?

Initiative gets you ahead of others in any endeavour and ensures you are up to date with what is going on in your career sector. People who demonstrate good initiative generate exciting and beneficial ideas and are capable of prevailing in any business venture.

It seems to me it is very good idea. Completely with you I will agree.
