On the 25th of May 2023, Africans all over the continent that share a common goal, celebrate African Union (AU) day. African Union Day is a day that is set aside to remember how far we have come as a continent and how far we wish to go. The African Union is an organization that is the successor to the Organization African Unity which was formed in 1963 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The current chairperson of the African Union is President Azali Assoumani (the Union of Comoros).

In Ghana, AU day is celebrated in a variety of ways. Lectures and Seminars are held at various universities and intellectual centers. In Basic schools, students celebrate Cultural Day. Cultural Day is a celebration of African individualism is a creative and colorful way. Students at Tunnyv International School were encouraged to dress in their traditional cloths that highlight their cultural heritage. They are also taught about the bravery of our forefathers who led African kingdoms in the past, great leaders who pioneered the fight for freedom as well as their dreams for the future. By making the day about African heritage, the future leaders of Africa will be able to appreciate and have pride in being African.

Involving the youth at the basic level is the best way to ensure that the plans and dreams that our forefathers had will successfully be passed on into the future. A short reminder it may be but this will go a long way to making pan-Africanism a reality. The scene at Tunnyv International School clearly embodies this ideal.
